Perhaps on of the hardest things to do in a business is to create a well-thought story. A story that would express an idea of us and the winery. I have decided not to create a story, for in all reality the word makes me think of fiction or something made up. I rather tell you simply the truth. So here it goes . . . I just stumbled into the wine business through a web page. I have always appreciated wine and drink it on occasion. It all started with two words that in someway has affected all of our lives at one point or another, “I’m pregnant.” With those two words my life took a turn for the better. At that time we already had a 2-year-old son. Our small house out in the city just wouldn’t suit our new family of four. So we searched around a bit and came across a modest five acres just outside of Battle Ground, Washington. It was definitely a fixer upper, but with a lot of potential. It also boasted a wonder southern slop which overlooked the valley below. Now, fast forward a couple years, and we end up with two kids, five acres, and a small winery project. We call it Rusty Grape Vineyards. We had thought of many different names for our winery, but ended up choosing this one. I guess we liked the sound of it, but mostly we wanted something different and unique. While learning the ends and outs of how to create a good wine and all the care that went into maintaining a vineyard, we fell in love with the wine making business, from the actual making of the wine right down to the cleaning of the barrels. I don’t know if you like our truthful layout of how we became, but this is what came out in an attempt not to use phrases like “our family run winery,” and “our complex sub-climate.” We do have interesting weather at times, but then again, who doesn’t? We will never turn down a good conversation with a wine expert or just someone who wants to try some wine and learn more about it. So in conclusion, if you love a nice glass of wine, hopefully you’ll come see us, and like it enough to buy a bottle or two. Drink, Enjoy, and Share Wine. And when it’s all said and done, tell us about it. We would love to hear your stories and memories made over a good bottle of wine. |
